The 30th of June each year is Social Media Day. A global event celebrating the power of social media to connect people from all over the world.
The day was founded in 2010 by Mashable, a leading digital media company, as a way to recognise social media’s impact on global communication.
Since its inception, Social Media Day has grown in popularity and is now celebrated by businesses, organisations, and individuals around the world. The day is a great opportunity to learn about the latest trends in social media, connect with new people, and share your own stories.
Social Media has quickly become a part of our lives. In the blink of an eye, it has grown from nothing into a global phenomenon, with Billions of users worldwide.

The History of Social Media
The history of social media can be traced back to the early days of the internet.
In 1997, the first social media platform, SixDegrees.com, was launched, allowing users to create profiles, connect with friends, and send messages.
In the years that followed several other social media platforms emerged, including MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. These platforms quickly gained popularity and changed how people communicate and interact with each other. Forever!
My Personal Social Media Journey
My journey in social media started with MySpace. It first launched in the UK in the summer of 2003 but it wasn’t until early in 2004 that I jumped onboard.
MySpace was pretty cool, considering there had been nothing like it before but it wasn’t until 2006, when Facebook became available to anyone over the age of 13, that things really began to take off. And things would never be the same again!
I joined LinkedIn in 2005, Facebook in 2007 and Twitter in 2009. In 2010 I joined a progressive e-commerce company, which is when I started using them for business and have been using them every day since.
In 2014 I met my partner, Jennie, through Facebook whilst doing a charity walk for Families Need Fathers. In the same year, I also set up 127 Media which has kept a roof over our heads and food on the table since.
I know it isn’t always unicorns and fairy tales on social media and like everything else it has its ups and downs. But, the fact is, social media changed my life, as l wouldn’t be where I am right now without it.
